Meeting Point
Meet inside the Cape RADD Dive Center, on the shore of False Bay South Africa. Please note that the meeting time will be confirmed the day before your trip. All self-drive guests will start at this point as indicated on the map.
Highlight Of The Activity
Snorkel for Science by Cape RADD allows everyday people to contribute to marine science by helping collect data on fish and sharks in False Bay.
Participants join marine biologists for a guided snorkeling experience to search for species such as puffadder sharks and pyjama sharks.
The activity includes a briefing about the False Bay ecosystem and the goals of the trip.
Guests help by spotting and photographing sharks, and the images are submitted to Fin Spotter to help estimate shark populations and track their movements.
The activity is beginner-friendly, and all snorkeling equipment is provided.
Trips are weather dependent, and participants should provide valid contact details for meeting point updates or changes.
The experience begins at the Ocean Hub, where your marine biologist host provides a short introduction over coffee or tea.
After the briefing, participants head into the ocean to explore the kelp forests and marine life of False Bay.
Guides also take photos of the sharks, marine life, ocean scenery, and participants swimming through the kelp, so you can remember your experience as a Citizen Scientist.
